Framingham, MA Carpentry Services

Framingham became a city on January 1, 2018, after more than 300 years as a town, and its housing spans that history: 19th-century mill housing in Saxonville, early 1900s homes and multi-families near downtown and South Framingham, older homes around Framingham Center and mid-century ranches and raised ranches in Nobscot and Pinefield. Route 9 divides the city north and south. CB Carpentry provides framing, finish carpentry, cabinetry and built-ins, decks and exterior carpentry, doors and windows and flooring throughout Framingham.

What we build in Framingham

Rough Carpentry

Framingham's mid-century ranches and raised ranches are great candidates for additions, dormers and open floor plans. We frame additions, install beams where walls come out, frame finished basements and lower levels, and repair rotted sills and framing. Older Saxonville and downtown homes may need joist and sill repairs during renovations. Structural work requires a permit from the city.

Raised ranches in Nobscot and Pinefield are also good candidates for adding a second story or a dormer over the garage. We frame the new space, reinforce the existing structure where needed and coordinate inspections with the city building department. Every job is framed to pass inspection.

Finish Carpentry

Adding trim is an easy way to give Framingham's ranches and raised ranches more character. We install crown, baseboards, wainscoting, panel molding, shiplap and new casing, and update stairs with hardwood treads and new railings. In older homes, we match existing trim profiles.

Many Framingham ranches were built with narrow casing and low baseboards, and upgrading the trim package changes how the whole house feels. In older homes in Saxonville and Framingham Center, we match original profiles when only part of the house is being renovated. Full-wall panel molding like the green wall in our photos is also popular. Joints are coped and tight.

Cabinetry & Storage

We install kitchen and bath cabinets, islands and appliance panels, and build built-in bookshelves, media walls, mudroom benches, closets and pantries. Raised ranches often have awkward split-level spaces that built-ins can turn into useful storage.

Kitchen remodels in Framingham often include new cabinets, an island and panel-ready appliances, all of which need careful leveling on older floors. In finished lower levels, built-in bars and media walls make the space feel complete. We also build closet systems and mudroom storage near the garage entry for busy families. Pantry shelving and kitchen built-ins round out many Framingham remodels and make busy kitchens easier to keep organized.

Exterior Carpentry

We build and rebuild decks on frost-depth footings, build front porches and entry steps, pergolas, outdoor showers and fences, and replace rotted trim, soffits and fascia. Homes near Lake Cochituate, Farm Pond and Callahan State Park get decks and outdoor spaces built to enjoy the setting.

Outdoor showers and cedar fences are also popular in Framingham backyards, along with rebuilt front steps and landings on raised ranches. We use pressure-treated framing, rot-resistant materials and corrosion-resistant hardware so outdoor projects hold up through New England winters. Decks on raised ranches are often tall, so we pay close attention to posts, bracing, stairs and railings that meet code.

Doors & Windows

We hang interior doors, install entry, storm and patio doors, reframe window openings and repair rotted sills and jambs. Replacing sliders on raised ranches with new patio doors is a common project when decks are rebuilt.

Older homes downtown and in Saxonville often have doors that no longer close properly because the house has settled. We rehang and adjust doors, replace worn hinges and strikes and install new pre-hung doors where needed. New windows get extension jambs and interior trim so they look finished from inside as well. Exterior doors get sill pans, flashing and new trim so they stay dry and look finished.

Flooring

We install solid and engineered hardwood, prepare and level subfloors, and finish transitions and stair nosing. Engineered hardwood is a good fit for lower levels in raised ranches.

Raised ranches often have carpet on the stairs between levels, which we can replace with hardwood treads that match the new floors. We also replace damaged subfloor, level floors before installation and finish thresholds where hardwood meets kitchen or bathroom tile. Solid hardwood works well on main floors; engineered is best below grade. In older Saxonville and downtown homes, we flatten settled floors as much as practical before installation, so the new hardwood lies tight and looks right from room to room.

Residential Carpentry Contractor in Framingham, MA

Framingham's housing tells the story of a mill town turned suburb turned city. Saxonville grew around its mills in the 1800s, downtown filled with homes and multi-families in the early 1900s, and in the 1950s and 1960s builders added large numbers of slab and raised ranch homes in Nobscot, Pinefield and Saxonville. Each era brings different carpentry needs, from repairing old framing to giving mid-century homes the trim, built-ins and open layouts today's families want.

Many of our Framingham projects bring mid-century homes up to date: opening walls for a more open layout, upgrading trim and stairs, adding built-in storage and rebuilding decks off the back of raised ranches. In older homes around Saxonville and downtown, we repair aging framing and match original trim where it can be saved.
