CB Carpentry's Door & Window Services
Doors and windows get used every day, and small installation problems show up fast: doors that rub, latches that miss, drafts and leaks around frames.
CB Carpentry installs and repairs doors and windows for Massachusetts homeowners and finishes them with casing and trim that fits the house.
A door or window is only as good as its installation. Most problems we fix, from drafts and leaks to doors that rub and latches that miss, come from openings that are out of square, missing flashing or hinges that have loosened over time. We check the framing around the opening, correct what is wrong and install the new unit plumb, level and sealed.
Many homeowners combine door and window work with other projects, like replacing a slider when a deck is rebuilt or updating interior doors and trim during a remodel. We can plan those together so the work happens once.

01 Interior Door Hanging
We hang new pre-hung interior doors and slab doors in existing jambs, including bedroom, closet, bathroom and pocket doors, plus bifold and barn-style doors. A good install means the jamb is plumb and square, the gap around the door is even, and the latch catches without a slam. Slab doors are scribed, planed and mortised for hinges to fit older openings that are no longer square. We can also fix doors that stick, drift open or will not latch, which usually comes down to hinges, shims or a jamb that has shifted.
Pocket doors need careful framing and track installation so they slide smoothly for years.
02 Exterior Door Installation
Entry doors, side doors and patio doors have to keep out weather and intruders. We remove the old unit, check the sill and framing for rot, flash the rough opening, and set the new door level and plumb with proper shims and insulation around the frame. Sill pans and flashing keep water from getting under the threshold, a common failure point in older homes. We finish with exterior trim and interior casing so the door looks finished inside and out.
We also install storm doors and adjust thresholds so the door seals tight against weatherstripping. A properly installed entry door should close with a light push and latch without slamming.
03 Window Framing & Rot Repair
When a window is replaced with a different size, or a new window is added, the rough opening needs to be reframed with a proper header. We frame new and resized openings, repair rotted sills, jambs and framing around old windows, and prepare openings so the new window sits square. Flashing tape and sill pans are installed in the right order so water is directed out, not in.
Wood rot around old windows often goes deeper than it looks, so we probe the framing and replace what is needed. The finished opening is sized correctly for the new window, which is critical for a good seal.
04 Door Hardware Installation
New locks, deadbolts, handles, hinges and closers make a big difference in how a door feels. We install and adjust hardware, bore new doors, mortise hinges, and upgrade older doors with modern locksets. Door hardware should operate smoothly and line up with strike plates, which often means small adjustments to the jamb.
Smart locks and keypad deadbolts need the door to be properly aligned so the bolt throws smoothly. We adjust the jamb and strike as needed so electronic and keyed locks work reliably. We can also install closers on doors to garages and basements and replace worn thresholds and door sweeps.
Signs Your Door or Window Needs Work
Drafts, daylight around a closed door, sticking or rubbing, latches that do not catch, condensation between panes and soft wood at sills are all signs of trouble. Most can be fixed with adjustment, new weatherstripping or a properly installed replacement.
Why Installation Matters
Even the best door or window will leak and stick if it is installed out of square or without flashing. Careful installation is what makes a new unit perform the way the manufacturer intended.

Doors & Windows FAQ
Can you fix a door that sticks?
Usually. Sticking doors are often caused by loose hinges, a shifted jamb or swelling. We tighten, shim, plane or rehang the door as needed.
Do you sell doors and windows?
We install doors and windows you choose from a supplier, and we can help you figure out sizes and what to order.
Can you make a window opening bigger?
Yes. Enlarging an opening means installing a new header sized for the wall. Load-bearing walls may need engineering and a permit.
Do you install storm doors?
Yes. We install storm doors and adjust them along with the entry door behind them.
