CB Carpentry's Cabinetry & Built-In Storage Services
Good storage makes a house easier to live in. Cabinetry and built-ins use every inch of a wall, alcove or closet and are fitted to the room instead of pushed against it like furniture.
CB Carpentry installs kitchen and bath cabinets and builds custom built-ins, bookshelves, window seats, bars and closet systems for Massachusetts homeowners.
Whether you are installing a new kitchen or adding storage to a single room, the work starts with careful measuring. Floors are rarely level and walls are rarely straight, especially in older Massachusetts homes, so every cabinet and built-in is shimmed, leveled and scribed to fit the room it is in. That is what keeps doors aligned and gaps closed.
We can work from a kitchen designer's plan, a sketch you have made or simply a conversation about what you need to store. Either way, you get a clear quote before work begins and storage that is built to last.

01 Kitchen & Bath Cabinetry
Cabinet installation decides whether a new kitchen looks custom or just assembled. We install stock, semi-custom and custom cabinets, set them level and plumb even when floors and walls are not, and scribe filler strips and end panels so there are no gaps at walls and ceilings. We also install panel-ready appliance surrounds, islands, bathroom vanities and linen cabinets, and finish the job with crown, light rail and toe-kick trim. Countertop templating goes smoothly when the cabinets underneath are set accurately.
We work from the kitchen designer's plan and flag any problems before cabinets go up. Doors and drawers are adjusted before we leave.

Built-ins turn awkward spaces into the best part of a room. We design and build bookshelves on either side of a fireplace or window, window seats with drawers or lift-up storage, media walls, bars and mudroom lockers. Built-ins are attached to the house and trimmed into the walls and ceiling, so they look original to the home. Shelving can include lighting, adjustable shelves, glass doors and drawers, and we finish them to match the rest of your trim.
We plan outlets, lighting and vents with you before the built-in is built. Every built-in is trimmed to match the room so it looks original.

Most closets waste space with a single rod and shelf. We build custom closet systems with double hanging, drawers, shoe shelves and adjustable shelving, and turn walk-in closets into organized dressing areas. We also build storage under stairs, in attic knee walls and in basements, where odd-shaped spaces are hard to use with off-the-shelf products.
Closet projects are often finished in a day or two, and they make a big difference in how organized a home feels. We build with solid shelving, sturdy rods and drawers fastened securely to the wall framing. Wire shelving can be replaced with solid wood.

A well-planned pantry makes a kitchen work better. We build walk-in and reach-in pantry shelving sized to what you actually store: deep shelves for appliances and bulk items, shallow shelves for cans and spices, and open space for baskets or a step stool. Shelves are built from solid materials and supported so they will not sag under heavy loads, and we can add drawers, pull-out trays or a small countertop for a coffee station. Pantry shelving can be painted to match your cabinets or trim. Combined with closet and storage work, it is one of the fastest ways to make a home feel organized.

Cabinetry and built-ins: what homeowners ask about
Built-Ins vs. Store-Bought Furniture
Built-ins are made to fit the exact space, reach the ceiling and stay put, so they use space far better than freestanding furniture. They also add finished character that stays with the house.
Planning Cabinet and Built-In Projects
Measure what you plan to store, decide where outlets, lights and switches should go, and think about doors versus open shelves. Planning these details before construction is what makes a built-in look custom.
Working Around Old Walls
Older Massachusetts homes rarely have square corners or level floors. Cabinets and built-ins are shimmed, leveled and scribed so they look straight even when the room is not.

Cabinetry & Storage FAQ
Do you sell cabinets or just install them?
We install cabinets you purchase from a supplier or kitchen showroom, and we build custom built-ins and shelving on site. Tell us where your cabinets are coming from and we will plan the installation.
Can you build built-ins around a fireplace?
Yes. Bookshelves and cabinets on either side of a fireplace are one of our most popular built-in projects, along with window seats and media walls.
How long does cabinet installation take?
A typical kitchen takes a few days to install and trim, depending on the number of cabinets and the amount of custom fitting. Built-ins vary with size and detail.
Do built-ins add value to a home?
Well-built, well-placed built-ins add usable storage and character, which buyers notice. They should suit the style of the house to have the most appeal.
How are cabinet and built-in jobs priced?
We quote each project after seeing the space and talking through the design, since size, materials and details vary widely.
